Summary/Abstract: Decarbonizing the energy sector is a fundamental component in global efforts to combat climate change and an essential pillar of the European Union's climate objectives. The process involves drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuels with low- or zero-emission energy production technologies, such as renewable sources and nuclear energy. The massive integration of renewable energies, the modernization of energy infrastructure, the development of storage capacities, the electrification of key sectors of the economy and the adoption of coherent public policies are decisive elements for achieving climate neutrality. In parallel, emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, new generation nuclear reactors and carbon capture and storage solutions are accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy. Through strategic investments, international collaboration and innovation, the EU is strengthening its role as a global leader in decarbonisation and in building a secure, efficient and environmentally friendly energy system.
