Summary/Abstract: The monograph The Hanging Fields of Bulgarian Literature by Boris Minkov shifts the focus of literary history from the center to the “in-between” – to the unfixed, the processual, the suspended. The author applies Wolfgang Iser’s concept of Leerstellen (“gaps”) to the broader literary field, revealing the “suspended” zones of Bulgarian culture not as absences but as potentials for critical and creative interaction. Minkov combines historical and sociocultural analysis to construct a dynamic model of literary reception and transformation. In this context, Bulgarian literature is conceived as a “laboratory of inheritance” – a network of dialogues, tensions, and unfinished processes. The study is both critically incisive and conceptually coherent, demonstrating remarkable authorial control, ethical engagement, and an acute awareness of “suspended fields” as a driving force of cultural development.
