Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the close ups in the graphic novel “Stitches” by David Small as affection images according to Deleuze, their role in the narrative, in the expression of emotions and feelings and in the visual-verbal interaction. Their dynamics between the reflexive nature of quality and the intense affection image is traced. The portraits of the main autobiographical character are in the centre of the research. Examples of potential spaces (according to Deleuze – any space whatever) which are not faces but are still affection images are also included in the paper. Finally, as the main characteristic of comics as a media is that it is a form of sequential art, the connection between the separate close-ups in the novel is revealed. Gilles Deleuze looks for his affection images in cinema but we see that they are completely valid and perform the same functions in David Small’s “Stitches”, a contemporary autobiographical graphic novel.
