Summary/Abstract: The text traces the emergence and development of processes fundamental to contemporary puppet arts in Bulgaria, particularly in the realm of so-called object and material theater, as well as figure theater, through the works of directors Petar Pashov and Slavcho Malenov, along with their collaborators – stage designers Silva Bachvarova, Vasil Rokomanov, and composer Petar Tsankov – during the 1980s at the State Puppet Theater in Plovdiv and the 1990s at Theatre “Atelier 313” in Sofia. The article analyzes alternative aesthetic and methodological manifestations of puppetness in relation to their social, political, and artistic context, highlighting their determination by social, historical, and other preconditions.
