Summary/Abstract: Post-1990 novels place strong emphasis on identity, especially through the female character’s ongoing relationship with her own body. Because many female writers set their narratives during the Romanian communism or in close connection with it, the body becomes deeply politicized under state hegemony. The individual loses autonomy over their physical self, effectively surrendering it to society and becoming guided by forces external to their inner world. Forced to face profound alienation, individuals became victims of the present. Consequently, interconnected forms of the body emerge, each illustrating submission to a politically orchestrated destiny.
