Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to provide the theoretical framework and historical context necessary to reflect on two emblematic cases of violence at the end of the twentieth century: the bombing of Bologna’s railway station (2 August 1980) and the attack on Boulevard Colonel Amirouche in Algiers (30 January 1995), examined through their online commemorations. The comparison shows that, in Italy, commemoration has developed into a consolidated public ritual, whereas in Algeria the remembrance of the event is embedded within a more fragmented memory linked to the complexity of the “Black Decade.” The analysis highlights the role of digital media as cultural instruments that help shape the ways in which societies process collective trauma.
