Summary/Abstract: The funeral of a priest should be a liturgical celebration in which the nature of the Church– the Mystical Body of Christ, composed of many members fulfilling various offices and functions in the liturgical assembly – is fully revealed. The changes that took place in the theological understanding of death were also taken up by the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council. The texts of funeral rites show more clearly the connection between the death of a Christian and the Paschal Mystery. The renewed order of the liturgy also makes room for adjustments resulting, among other things, from the ordination received by the deceased and the characteristics of his spirituality. The noble simplicity of the rituals is meant to show what is most important, that is, the Word of God in which Christ himself is present. The beauty of the liturgical concelebration is to be a sign of the unity of the entire presbytery headed by the bishop.
