The First Ukrainian Emigration in Polish and Belarusian Studies

Summary/Abstract: In the article, an overview of the, according to the author, most important sources about the life and work of one of the first Ukrainian emigrants, hetman Filip Orlik (1672-1742) was presented. The purpose of this article is to overview the contemporary reception of works on Orlik as a statesman, starting with the first mention of him in 1837 and until 2017 (P. Kroll's article in the No. 4 vintage of the Polish-Ukrainian Studies). The hetman is most well-known for his Latin language Constitution of 1710. However, he is also the author of the panegyric poems Alcides Rossius (1695), Hippomenes Sarmacki (1698); the treatise of the Laws of Ukraine, diary in five volumes. He kept a diary during the long years of his emigration (1720–1732). The current edition of the diary and its remains are still relevant. The discourse of Polish and Belarusian research convinces us about the great importance of this literary work, the need for its publication and analysis.
