Romanian Emigration in USA after 1945. Motivation and Strategies

Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of emigration during the communist regime is an interesting phenomenon but also a controversy one because of its complexity. Motivations and strategies of emigration were different from time to time but kept the same guiding line: it is based on social, economic, religious, intellectual points of view. Regarding strategies, they are different: from legal actions (but not without consequences) to illegal action of runaway. The interviews carried out in USA during a foreign relationship with Indiana University revealed moving personal histories of Romanian-American inhabitants; we focused especially on those emigrated after 1945.
