Summary/Abstract: The article highlights the essence of the concept "communicative competence" in terms of training students of higher humanitarian education, primarily in the aspect of their volunteer activities. Attention is focused on the formation of future philologists’ communicative competence, the essence of which is represented as the ability to communicate in Ukrainian and foreign languages on the basis of formed linguistic knowledge, mastery of skills in listening, reading, speaking, writing, translation, use of these skills to ensure interaction between all participants of communication. The projection of communicative competence on the specifics of volunteer activity allows us to clarify that this competence in future humanitarians (first of all philologists) - volunteers involves a well-formed knowledge of the norms of the language (Ukrainian or foreign), the ability to perform speech activity in its receptive and productive forms, establishing cooperation on the basis of humanistic values, as well as strong beliefs in the importance of volunteering for the development of society, the country, and self-development. Project learning, research activities, independent work, etc. are effective methods to form the communicative competence. Projectbased training involves the students' performance of tasks that have a material result of cognitive activity on the problems of volunteering. Students' scientific research activity focuses on the study of theoretical sources, analysis of scientific positions, comparison, systematization of received information, its generalization and implementation in practice. The result of research activities can be the preparation of speeches, presentations, recommendations on raising the level of volunteering. The independent work of future specialists allows developing knowledge about the specifics of volunteering, the directions of its deployment, as well as mastering social, psychological, pedagogical knowledge, which improves the results of volunteering, enables interaction with citizens when providing them with assistance.
