Summary/Abstract: The article presents the peculiarities of studying Ukrainian folklore in the school course of Ukrainian literature, in particular its interdisciplinary orientation, important role in the formation of key competencies of schoolchildren, as well as its high upbringing potential. The problem of incorporating folklore material into basic and additional literary education has attracted the attention of methodologists, but the forms and methods of studying oral poetry, which contribute to the growth of the national culture of students, develop their oral speech, creative imagination, and more, require a thorough systematization. The article characterizes the stages of work with works of oral folk art in Ukrainian literature lessons. In particular, the author analyzes the methodology of studying folklore works by genre: folk tales, legends, retellings, fables, proverbs, sayings, riddles, songs, romances, dumas, ballads, dramas. The technology of using the research method by pupils is outlined, which forms various aspects of pupils' creative activity and ensures efficiency in learning. The article provides samples of lesson notes on the study of calendar and ritual poetry according to current model programs. The study of Ukrainian folklore in the context of the ideas of the new Ukrainian school convinces that this area of ethnoculture contributes to a more concise achievement of the educational and upbringing tasks set for the teacher, because the realization of the sociocultural content line is possible provided that students are introduced to the national cultural fund, studying folklore markers of the Ukrainian mentality. The semantic and functional specificity of oral folk art, taking into account the age peculiarities of students in terms of perception of folklore material, determine a differentiated approach to the introduction of the folklore component into the system of literary education. The conducted research outlines further aspects of studying Ukrainian folklore in the school course of Ukrainian literature, development of new effective methodological techniques in the work of a language teacher, which will contribute to the formation of key competencies of secondary education students, their ideological and aesthetic education.
