Summary/Abstract: Prince Wartislaw IV, born around 1290 as the son of Bogusław IV and Margaret, daughter of the Rügen prince Wizlawa II, ruled the Duchy of Wolgast from 1309. Around 1316, he also became the ruler of the Sławieńskie and Słupskie lands, and in 1325, after the extinction of the Rügen dynasty, the Duke of Rügen. Prince Wartislaw IV pursued a different policy from that of his father, which resulted in the expansion of his dominion. The article aims to gather and verify previous findings and to show the role of Prince Wartislaw IV in the incorporation of Słupsk and Sławno lands to the Principality of Wolgast. The article’s content focuses largely on the origins of the inclusion of Słupsk and Sławno lands into the domain of Duke Wartislaw IV, and consequently, the policy of the Western Pomeranian dukes towards these territories. The primary source material consists mainly of documents from Wartislaw IV and other princes and rulers who participated in the circumstances of the assumption of power in the Słupsk and Sławno lands by the Duke of Wolgast.
