Summary/Abstract: This article seeks to develop Gérard Genette’s hypertextual model articulated in Palimpsestes. La littérature au second degré (1982), positing that Genette’s taxonomy is tentative and open to further elaboration. I argue that conceptual gaps within Genette’s framework may be addressed by introducing a new hypertextual figure related to gender transformations. The novel hypertextual category – gender transposition accounts for three main variables: changes focusing solely on gender identity that I call binary transgenderization, acts of transgression (non-binary transgenderization) and the modality of perspective in gender perception (interpersonal transgenderization). This theoretical approach is grounded particularly in feminist and gender studies. The analytical part of this article applies the new categories on the drama Till Fedra (1980) by Swedish playwright Per Olov Enquist alongside with Jean-Baptiste Racine’s tragedy Phèdre (1677), focusing on the character of Théramène. Through a hypertextual reading, the study underscores the potential of gender transformations enriching the interpretive scope of Genette’s model.
