Summary/Abstract: Through the history of the Silesian Hospital in Cieszyn, this article highlights the complex relations along the Polish-Czech border, as well as identity issues in the region, including religious and local ethnic identities. As a facility located in Cieszyn, the Silesian Hospital is embedded in the history of the city and of Cieszyn Silesia. Its fate depended on the national affiliation of the borderland area, which in turn shaped the sanitary policies implemented by the governing country.
