Tiered digital archives as a tool for sustainable management of digital resources

Summary/Abstract: Sustainable digital archives are resource-efficient platforms for managing the attributes of digital objects, such as accessibility, authenticity, integrity, confidentiality, usability, and consistency with legal requirements, quality standards, and archival goals. It also represents an approach to digital archiving where the environmental impact of the entire environment for writing and reading digital objects is optimized throughout their life cycle.The article aims to introduce the topic of digital archiving in the context of sustainable development. It explores the concept of tiered digital archives, highlighting their potential for the sustainable management of digital resources. The CREDO project is presented as a domestic example of seeking solutions for energy-efficient archiving of digital resources.
