Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the development of health prevention for older adults in Poland during the post-war period up to 1989. The analysis focuses on the evolution of institutional and social approaches to ageing, with particular attention to changing understandings of health and the determinants of the ageing process. The infl uence of WHO strategies and Lalonde’s health field concept on the shaping of geriatric prevention policies is discussed. The article outlines organizational structures, the scope of medical and community-based interventions, as well as the role of health education, physical activity, and nutrition in the implementation of three-tier prevention. The study is based on document analysis and medical literature review. The findings indicate a gradual transition from a care- based model to an activating approach, integrating medical and social actions in response to population ageing.
