Summary/Abstract: The article presents the origins and development of Professor Władysław Kuraszkiewicz’s (1905-1997) Slavic studies interests. Kuraszkiewicz, a distinguished linguist, Polish philologist, and Slavist, devoted his research to East Slavic languages and the dialects of the Polish–Ruthenian borderland. The author shows how the multilingual and multicultural environment of his hometown Włodawa shaped his early linguistic awareness and how his academic mentors at the University of Jan Kazimierz in Lviv – Professors Tadeusz Lehr-Spławiński and Jan Janów – influenced the direction of his scholarly pursuits. The text discusses Kuraszkiewicz’s contribution to East Slavic dialectology and his pioneering work on documenting the Ruthenian dialects within the borders of interwar Poland. It also traces the evolution of his academic interests, from early studies on the Polabian language to fundamental works on Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Old Russian linguistic monuments, situating his achievements within the broader development of twentieth-century Polish Slavic studies.
