Summary/Abstract: Born in 1890 in Bochnia, educated at the Jagiellonian University in Polish and classical studies, editor, writer, teacher and librarian, Leopold Kronenberg was passionate about Esperanto. In 1912, at the age of just twenty one, he was awarded a diploma as a professor of Esperanto by the Internacia Instituto de Esperanto in Geneva, took an active part in the preparation of the World Esperanto Congress in Krakow, and had the first edition of his Samouczek pomocniczy języka międzynarodowego esperanto [Esperanto textbooks for self-learning the auxiliary international language] published. The book was later reedited and issued again three times more. Kronenberg worked for a short time as a teacher in Kalisz, where he was also an active esperantist. During this time, he prepared the first Kalisz edition of his textbook, which was published in 1920. Two years before the author’s death, also in Kalisz, the last, fourth edition, revised and supplemented, came out. The article presents Kronenberg’s textbook against the background of his brief biography and presents its contents, comparing the Kalisz editions with two other issues.
