Summary/Abstract: The study analyses the narrative structure of the story as a type of manipulative communication strategy in a selected text corpus of the Slovak web magazine Zem a Vek which is indexed in the list of media publishing hoaxes and conspiracies. The text corpus includes articles about the crisis in Ukraine, which is a consequence of the Russian military attack – the relevant text data collection has been made from the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war (February 2022) until February 2023. The study analyses the forms and types of story or microstory structures and their pragmatic focus in the overall “narrative” of this media about the Russian-Ukrainian war, based on the methods of qualitative discourse analysis. The narrative is here explained as a temporal-causal consequence of events – its importance in contemporary media discourse is obvious. In this study, N. Fairclough’s hypothesis on entertaining features of media narratives is confronted and verified and the importance and specific function of narrative in the type of conspiracy media is also emphasized.
