Summary/Abstract: The present paper has theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part, information and communication technologies are analysed in the context of an emphasis on constructivist, cognitive and sociocultural models that promote active and meaningful learning. In addition, the use of specific technological tools, such as computers, smartphones and interactive whiteboards, and their role in improving access to learning materials and increasing student engagement are characterized. The empirical part contains the results of our own empirical research, which was realised by the quantitative methodology. There were 21 surveyed university students from department of education at the Faculty of Arts University of ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. The aim of the survey was to find out whether prospective teachers perceive the use of information and communication technologies in the educational process as a way through which they can educate students more effectively and thus overcome the existing generational differences. The aim of this paper is to analyze the using of selected technological tools in the educational process and to find out the opinions of the surveyed university students on the using of ICT in the educational process as one of the ways of linking the interactions between teachers and students. The conclusions of the paper emphasize the importance of specific technological tools such as computers, smartphones and interactive whiteboards in the implementation of the educational process. The views of the respondents indicating the using of ICT in the educational process are a pre-inquiry to the planned research on the above mentioned issue. Due to the scope of the paper, the text does not include an analysis of the questionnaire design.
