J. G. Kon. The Memory of the Heart. Fate, Self-Education, Science, Creativity, a Teacher

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to recreate the image of Jуzef Geimanovich Kon – an outstanding scientist, “an intellectual of a new type in musicology”, a man of high spiritual qualities. This person’s originality was determined, first of all, by his natural brilliant abilities, phenomenal memory, creative impulse inherent in him from early childhood, upbringing in a family infused with European culture traditions. Everything else was completed by fate, full of dramatic collisions – characteristic of twentieth- century Europe. In order to reveal J. G. Kon’s personality in its magnitude, to recreate his image, authors’ observations are presented here; people who knew him personally, studied or closely communicated with him in different periods of his life – in Tashkent, Novosibirsk, Petrozavodsk. This study reconstructs some facts of this scientist’s biography, captured by the author of this article, of the Novosibirsk period, when she was a graduate student at the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory, as well as based on personal contacts.
