Summary/Abstract: During the 1931/1932 academic year, Dimiter Nenov was briefly a student at the Lyceum of Music in Bologna, Italy, later renamed the Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory. The institution was founded in 1804, and among its distinguished teachers were the composer Gioachino Rossini and the pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. At the time Nenov attended the Lyceum, its director was Cesare Nordio, who later led the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory in Bolzano and founded the Ferruccio Busoni competition in the same city. Dimiter Nenov left for Italy in January 1931 on a state scholarship, where he met Egon Petri, with whom he specialized in Zakopane, Poland, later that same year. The library of the Bologna music institution holds two documents confirming that Nenov took harmony lessons from Ottorino Ranalli and Guido Spagnoli. There is also a signature from Zanelli, although unfortunately, no further information is available about him. The first document is a harmony assignment graded 24 out of 30, and the second is a student list from the harmony class in the fall of 1931, probably from around September 14. From the autobiographical letter that Dimiter Nenov wrote to Konstantin Zidarov on August 26, 1938, we know that Nenov was unable to complete his studies in theory, composition, and conducting due to a lack of funds, but he did receive a piano diploma dated November 23, 1932.
