Summary/Abstract: The 18th century of the Ottoman Empire is called the Age of Âyans. In this century, in the provinces outside the capital Istanbul, âyans, non-official state officials, undertook administrative activities and began to be addressed by the state. Gaining power through their growing influence and the authorities granted by the state, the âyans expanded their borders of sovereignty beyond their own regions after a while. In this study, the regional dominance of the Kemah âyans Sağırzâdeler, their development processes and activities of their family members are analyzed. Sağırzâdeler stood out with their administrative, military, financial and social services until 1922, when the Ottoman Empire collapsed. The family also made a name for itself by working for the continuity of the Republic of Türkiye after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. There are no detached studies on Sağırzâdeler in the existing literature, and the works that provide information about the family don’t exceed 1-2 pages. Therefore, this study is expected to uncover a family of the âyan that has remained in the shadows and contribute to future projects. Archival sources and research works were utilized in the study. The resulting data was analyzed to provide an accurate family history and genealogy.
