Summary/Abstract: This article examines the social-psychological mechanisms that underlie the ambiguity and miscommunication surrounding sexual consent. Drawing on the understanding of the dyadic nature of sexual interaction, it analyzes how cognitive distortions, social scripts, and cultural stereotypes influence the perception of consent and refusal. Special attention is given to phenomena such as sexual overperception, the effect of physiological arousal, and the role of motivated cognition. Empirical evidence is presented to demonstrate that the misinterpretation of communicative signals can lead to coercive behaviors, even in the absence of malicious intent. The discussion also addresses sociocultural factors – belief in a just world, the objectification of women, and the normalization of rape myths – that sustain victim-blaming attitudes and hinder effective prevention. The article highlights the need for scientifically grounded sexual education that emphasizes communicative clarity, ethical boundaries, and social responsibility in intimate relationships.
