Summary/Abstract: The National Library of Serbia holds a significant collection of medical literature, representing nearly two centuries of publishing activity in the domain of serial publications issued within the territory of modern day Serbia. The number of these publications approaches one thousand. Among the preserved editions, publications from the period before the 20th century hold particular value, having played a key role in the foundation and modernization of medical science in Serbia. For the purposes of this paper, the journal Domaći lekar. List za negovanje i čuvanje narodnog zdravlja (The Domestic Doctor. A Journal for Cultivating and Preserving Public Health), the oldest medical professional journal among the Serbs, first published in Pančevo in 1871, has been singled out. It serves as the foundation for modern medicine in Serbia, representing not only a rich treasury of medical, scientific, and empirical writings but also an integral part of Serbian national history and cultural heritage.
