Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of a research of commemorative events and their transformation from trauma to feast. The events – Anniversaries of The April 1876 Uprising and the Massacre of national heroes connected to the liberation movement and the Russian-Turkish – were observed in Batak, Perushtitca, Klisura, Koprivshtica, Skravena, and Karlovo. The approach is mostly anthropological: field observations, interviews with the spectators and organisers, documentary research, and monitoring of social media. The text introduces a structured overview of the historical commemorative events while separately presenting each one of their elements and the reasoning behind their selection. This deconstruction allows to elicit the common framework of the commemorative events. The order of presentation aims to convey clearly and visibly the added rituals and accents. The article arrives at an outline of the present-day model and the main elements of the commemorative events.
