Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we deal with Quine’s critique of modal logic and some ways in which that criticism can be answered. Firstly, we will explore the intuitive interpretation of modality that is implied in Quine’s arguments. Secondly, we will tackle the question of referential opacity of modal contexts. Then, we shall analyze Quine’s interpretative challenge. Finally, we shall deal with the question of the relation between modal logic and essentialism.
