Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the role of urban toponymy in shaping collective memory as well as local and civic identity, focusing on the presence of women in the urban space of Poznań. Street names are treated as instruments of memory politics and elements of the city’s symbolic order, reinforcing specific visions of the past. Historical analysis shows that women were long absent from the urban topography, and female patronages today constitute only a small percentage of street names. Contemporary social and municipal initiatives aim to restore women to their rightful place in collective memory. Incorporating them into the urban naming system contributes to the democratization of public space, strengthens local identity, and promotes values of equality and civic participation.
