Ancient Chinese poetry and art songs in the context of “The time of spring flowers and the autumn moon”

Summary/Abstract: Recently, the Chinese society gives special attention to the traditional culture. Creation and performance of art songs based on ancient poetry more and more attracts the music circles. This is a music genre that combines Chinese classical poetry with music. All lyrics come from this poetry and have turned into an important part of the contemporary vocal music education. „The Time of Spring Flowers and Autumn Moon“, composed by Wang Long is based on the lyrics of Li Yu, a master from Southern Tang dynasty. This work reveals deep emotions and sorrowful mood. This article analyses the work from musical and literature aspects and researches its unique charm and emotions in the music performance.
