Summary/Abstract: This article explores the logical and linguistic foundations for defining proper names and examines their relationship with the use of capital letters in the Bulgarian standard language. It presents an overview of descriptive and causal theories of reference, high-lighting their relevance to the categorization and graphical representation of proper names. Special attention is given to compound expressions that function as proper names, as well as to cases where variation and uncertainty in usage are observed within linguistic practice.
