Summary/Abstract: The history of urban transport in Kalisz before 1945 still remains relatively little researched. This applies both to the interwar period and the occupation years. After the liquidation of the pre-war municipal line in 1939, it was only in 1942 that the German authorities made efforts to restore internal transport. With the support of the Wartheland authorities, the necessary permits were obtained, and on 28 July 1942 the first bus line was launched, running from the station to the Main Market Square. Thanks to the new Büssing buses purchased in 1943, it became possible to expand transport services and direct buses onto new routes, including the narrow-gauge railway station, the hospital, and the Zollern-Werke factories. The high frequency of services – adapted mainly to train arrivals and departures as well as work shifts in factories – made municipal buses highly popular. The vehicles themselves survived the turmoil of the war and enabled the relaunch of urban transport in May 1945, this time under the Polish banner.
