Summary/Abstract: This article examines the multifaceted personality of Petru Poni (1841–1925), one of the founding figures of Romanian chemistry and scientific education. Through his activity as a professor at the University of Iaşi, researcher, academician, and politician, Poni played a decisive role in institutionalizing experimental sciences in Romania. His studies on mineral waters and natural salts from the region of Moldavia marked the beginning of applied chemical research in the country and revealed the potential of Romanian natural resources. As a full member of the Romanian Academy and Minister of Public Instruction, he promoted scientific education and contributed to the creation of a modern Romanian scientific terminology. His scientific legacy, carried forward by the “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Iaşi, remains a testament to the harmony between experimental rigor and the cultural vocation of modern Romanian science.
