Summary/Abstract: This article explores the concept of the Second Sophistic as a cultural, rhetorical, and philosophical phenomenon in the Roman Empire. It examines the continuities and distinctions between the First and Second Sophistic, the role of paideia and epideictic oratory, the interplay between rhetoric and philosophy, and the interpretive frameworks offered by modern scholarship. Special attention is given to the concept of logology as a key to understanding the performative autonomy of language in both classical and imperial contexts.
