Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the military uniforms of Karol Estreicher Jr., the undisputed expert in the restitution of cultural property. The uniforms he lost, and those he wore as an officer with the rank of major, a member of the Polish Restitution Mission in search, among other things, of Veit Stoss’s altar It also concerns the uniforms of Poles, for whom the British uniforms of the Polish Armed Forces and the uniforms of the Allies made it possible to return to their Homeland. The article also recalls the ways in which some of them acquired Allied uniforms. Since Allied experts carried out their duties in uniforms, it was necessary for Karol Estreicher, our expert, to also appear in uniform. The Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Kraków preserves individual items of Estreicher’s uniform which he wore at the time: the jacket and trousers of a British‑style service uniform, as well as two different battledress blouses – American and Irish – and battledress trousers.
