Summary/Abstract: Certainly one of the interesting features of the long Macedonian kaval are the secrets in the traditional making of the instrument. The kaval as an instrument is widespread in many parts of the world, but each nation has different cultural and social characteristics. It is known that in the past it was the musical instrument of shepherds, but today this is no longer the case. That is why this study reveals some of the secrets in the making and performance of the traditional Macedonian kaval, which are simple at first glance, but are actually very complex to implement, as well as to extract sound. The article examines the production process in the 21st century and some features of the making, and also analyzes the types of Macedonian kaval. At the same time, different types of intonations are shown, achieved by the famous craftsman and performer, the “Macedonian Stradivari” – Stoyanche Kostovski from the village of Viniche - Skopje, who has preserved the traditional way of making.
