Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine the role of ecological art education in graphic design courses offered in visual communication departments. The increasing ecological crises on a global scale make it essential to foster environmental awareness in design education. The study was conducted within the framework of a qualitative research approach using a case study design and involved 20 undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Visual Communication Design at a state university in Turkey. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using content analysis. The findings revealed that ecological art education had an impact on students in four main areas. First, the majority of students reported that their awareness of environmental issues increased at the end of the course. Second, a considerable number of students indicated that their design perspectives had changed, emphasizing not only aesthetic concerns but also social benefits. Third, half of the participants stated that they had improved their creative problem-solving skills. Finally, most students recognized the social responsibility dimension of design and began to approach their work with this awareness. Ecological art education was found to enhance not only the individual creativity of visual communication design students but also their environmental awareness and sense of social responsibility. This finding underscores the importance of integrating ecological art education into the graphic design curriculum and offers a roadmap for contributing to sustainable design practices in the future.
