Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the legal nature of the union which comprises the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its non-European parts, including six Caribbean islands. In the introductory considerations, there is a presentation of the basic data and directions of analysis. Then, the paper focuses on the essential development of the Dutch colonial empire from its inception to the World War II, after which the relationship between the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its remaining non-European territories was redefined. The next section analyzes the current Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, on the basis of which the Kingdom of the Netherlands operates (as it currently has four constituent parts), which is followed by a theoretical discussion on its constitutional, legal and political features. In the concluding considerations, there is a summary of the results of the research and the final theoretical qualification of the specific union of the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with its Caribbean territories.
