Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the cultural exchanges in folk art between Romania and China over the decade from 2012 to 2022, a period shaped by historical ties, diplomatic relations, and contemporary collaboration. Building on a foundation of shared interests in preserving traditional art forms, the two countries have engaged in a range of artistic exchanges, from exhibitions and performances to educational workshops and festivals. These activities have created a platform for mutual understanding, deepening the cultural connections between the two nations. The exchanges were heavily influenced by political and economic frameworks, such as the Belt and Road Initiative and China's cooperation mechanism with Central and Eastern Europe. The COVID-19 pandemic created challenges for in-person exchanges, but virtual events, like online art exhibitions, allowed the continuity of collaboration. Key milestones include the participation of Romanian artists at major Chinese festivals and vice versa, with both countries recognizing the value of folk art as a vessel for cultural diplomacy. These cultural exchanges have played a pivotal role in promoting diversity and fostering a deeper understanding between Romania and China. Furthermore, they have provided an essential bridge between two countries with rich cultural heritages, paving the way for future artistic endeavours and solidifying their bonds.
