Summary/Abstract: Abstract: This text traces the early stages in the history of the graphic medium, from the earliest forms of printing in Mesopotamia to the establishment of textile printing in India and Egypt, and the emergence of paper in China as a new vehicle for visual communication. These initial practices reveal not only technical innovation - foreshadowing future principles of printing techniques - but also a shift in function, from a medium with aesthetic, decorative, and ritual significance to an administrative and authoritative symbol/instrument within ancient societies. The image begins its evolution from a utilitarian tool to a bearer of cultural and spiritual value. This foundational stage sets the framework for further exploration of how the graphic medium transforms, expands its functions, and transcends mechanical reproduction to become an autonomous artistic form - creating a multilayered relationship between technology, visual culture, and conceptual content.
