Summary/Abstract: The EU considers copyright and cultural industries an important element in the Common Market, as it strives for the adoption of a harmonized legal framework that would strengthen legal security and encourage the investments in cultural industries. To this aim, the currently existent differences between national legislations in relation to copyright and neighbouring rights are being coordinated, which guarantees a high management standard and transparency in the distribution of rights revenue. Two types of management are examined – individual and collective, where the collective management of rights is viewed as superior, as it is the best-adapted system which satisfies the specific requirements for management of rights in the context of globalisation and trans-border use of works of art in a new electronic environment.
