Summary/Abstract: In the context of financial crisis, young people are eager to leave the country throughout the Balticum, which has become a notable problem especially in the last decade. According to statistics (Leino, Dislere, Merfeldaitė, Pivorienė & Railienė, 2023), a significant number of young adults are not satisfied with their study and/or job possibilities, nor with their living conditions and financial security. As one solution, this age group is ready to emigrate, which creates a problematic situation from the state’s point of view. For this article, the empirical data come from research on young Estonian adults who left the country during recent years (Toomistu, Annist & Murakas, 2023). The aim of that research was to identify the reasons for leaving and the aspects that could potentially encourage young people to return to their home country. Based on these data, I conducted a content analysis in order to clarify the role of emotional aspects and to outline what could be done from the perspective of the state. The theoretical background here comes from Allardt (1993) and from social pedagogy.
