Practicing Spaces by the Homeless: The example of Warsaw

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present different ways of practicing spaces by the homeless. It demonstrates the results of several years of qualitative research conducted in Warsaw and its surroundings, enriched with observation and literature review. In the paper, similarities and differences in the daily functioning of people using low-threshold services (for example soup kitchens) as well as residents of support institutions (for example shelters) are presented. This topic was analyzed in terms of various dimensions of domesticating public and semi-public spaces, building agency, and relocating homeless people. The raised issues include various contexts from sociology, social geography, and anthropology.
