Summary/Abstract: This article describes the development of edu¬cation for the older adults at the University of Ljubljana (UL), guided by the principles of the Age-Friendly University Global Network (AFU). The theoretical framework is based on research into longevity and the transformation of high¬er education through the development of the "third mission" of universities. The empirical part of the research focused on exploring the characteristics of the development of the Fac¬ulty of Active Wisdom (FAW) as an innovative collaborative practice in tertiary education. A qualitative methodology was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured inter¬views and the analysis of internal materials, and processed using thematic analysis. The fol¬lowing factors played an important role in the development of the FAW at UL: new scientific discoveries on longevity and the global AFU movement at the macro level; support for the new practice at UL and interdisciplinary net¬working among UL members at the meso level; and the commitment of practitioners and the motivation of students at the micro level. This inclusive new practice in tertiary education aims to empower the older adults and contrib¬ute to the development of humanities-based education for older adults by developing acces¬sible education for people over 55. The Faculty of Active Wisdom model was developed as a form of non-formal education within the so¬cio-cultural environment of a Slovenian public university, developing activities within its third mission. Therefore, the findings can be trans¬ferred to similar environments.
