Summary/Abstract: In her book The Cultural Politics of Emotion, Sara Ahmedstudies how emotions are shaped by culture, politics, and social life, and how they bind communities together or create exclusions. In the first chapter, she examines how pain is not only a bodily sensation but also a social and political experience. Pain can bring people together through empathy and solidarity, yet it can also be used to mark boundaries and exclude others. The chapter shows that emotions are never purely private, they gain meaning through language, culture, and politics, setting the foundation for her book’s argument that emotions shape collective life.
