Summary/Abstract: In this essay Samuel R. Delany interrogates the systemic exclusionof women from full participation and recognition in the science fiction field. Writing as a Black, queer male author, Delany adopts an intersectional lens to show how gender discrimination operates in conjunction with racial and sexual biases, producing layered forms of marginalization. He critiques entrenched editorial practices, market dynamics, and critical reception that perpetuate these inequalities, and calls for a reimagining of the genre’s structures to ensure equitable opportunities for diverse authors. Delany’s letter remains a pivotal intervention infeminist SF criticism, anticipating later scholarly debates on diversity, intersectionality, and the politics of literary production.
