Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to briefly present the results of preventive archaeological research, relatively recently concluded in the peninsular area of Constanţa city. As a result of the archaeological excavations carried out here, it could be noticed that the elevated area of the ancient Tomis had a long habitation period. The phases of occupation belong to the Archaic and Classical Greek periods, as well as to the late Hellenistic, Roman, and late Roman periods. The rich archaeological material, together with the state of preservation of the uncovered edifices, shows an uninterrupted habitation for more than a millennium. During these archaeological investigations, a number of 30 monetary signs and coins were discovered, organised as follows: nine monetary signs and 21 cast and minted coins, originating from Istros (nine items), Tomis (ten items), Callatis (one item) and the Kingdom of Macedonia (one item). All of them are the expression of the presence and monetary circulation carried out in the emporium and then in the polis of Tomis, between the Archaic and Late Hellenistic periods.
