Summary/Abstract: The “Karpaty” Regiment of the Border Protection Corps (BPC)—from summer 1939 designated as Regiment No. 1—was a unit formed to protect the state border in the specific mountainous terrain of the Eastern Carpathians. It was composed of Poles from the mountains and foothills, distinguished by their physical conditioning and skiing skills. At that time, it was the only unit of the Polish Army and the BPC whose entire personnel were equipped with mountaineering and skiing equipment.
