Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the function of silence in feminist literary utopias as a space of freedom, self-determination, and regeneration, examining the novels The Wanderground (1979) by Sally Miller Gearhart and Journey to Zelindar (1987) by Diana Rivers. The study examines the contrast between silence and alternative soundscapes and the noise associated with patriarchal society. It explores how these elements contribute to the development of new communication forms among women and communities that emphasize harmony with nature. Employing feminist and ecocritical methodologies, the author critiques essentialist beliefs regarding women’s connection to nature. The analysis positions silence as a tool for creating utopian environments where listening to oneself and one’s surroundings can redefine female identity and challenge patriarchal patterns of communication.
