Summary/Abstract: This article examines the increasing popularity of deprivation chambers and critically analyzes the idea that the complete absence of external stimuli, particularly sound, leads to inner peace. Sensory deprivation isolates the body from its acoustic environment and is situated within a therapeutic culture that commercializes silence as the mere absence of sound. However, when we consider the natural noise produced by the body itself, the calm that comes from deprivation is revealed to be an unrealistic and cruel fantasy of the body’s self-erasure, ignoring its sound and material dimensions.
