Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to outline the tensions experienced by a young researcher within the context of peripheral Polish academic capitalism over the past decade. What are the outcomes of these tensions – do they lead to institutional support, solidarity among researchers, or result in exploitation and alienation? To address these questions, I will draw on autoethnographic material. Sociology suggests that underlying social tensions reveal themselves in moments that disrupt customary practices. While working on a project funded by the National Science Centre, I encountered such a disruption when I defended my doctoral thesis, which elevated my status as the project manager. How did the university respond to this change? By examining my research diary, I will illustrate how a specific researcher, though not the project itself, was marginalized within the academic administrative framework.
